BJP leader and West Bengal CM probable Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday claimed that his PA Chandranath Rath was killed because of his association with him. Adhikari further suspected that Mamata Banerjee’s defeat in Bhabanipur could be the reason behind his PA’s murder.
Speaking to reporters in North 24 Parganas district, Adhikari said, “No matter how much we condemn the way this murder was carried out, it is not enough. He was killed because he was my aide and I defeated Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur. This could be the reason for his murder.”

The BJP leader, who is seen as frontrunner for the Chief Minister’s post following BJP’s landslide victory in Bengal Assembly elections, vowed to ensure the assailants are punished.
“I stand with his family, and the family’s demand is to apprehend those who committed this murder and ensure they are punished.”
Adhikari also claimed that the murder was premeditated. “The postmortem revealed that 4 bullets were fired at him… this murder was premeditated.”
Chandranath Rath was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Madhyamgram, Barasat on Wednesday night.
Rath reportedly sustained multiple bullet injuries and was rushed to Diversity Nursing Home where doctors declared him dead.
Two more people, including the driver, were also injured in the incident. The attackers reportedly fired on their white Scorpio car from the left side where Rath was sitting on the front seat.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident, though the identity and motive of the attackers remain unclear.
A large contingent of police forces, along with RAF and central forces, has been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
Meanwhile, the mortal remains of Rath have been brought from the hospital in Madhyamgram to his residence.
